Parveen Rehman, Director of Orangi Pilot Project shot dead
Parveen Rehman, the Director of Orangi Pilot Project (OPP) was shot dead in Karachi. She was returning home from Orangi when she was intercepted by armed man at the Qasba Mor point near Pakthunabad area. Parveen Rehman’s assignation has not only shocked her friends and colleagues but all Karachites are sad on her demise. Parveen Rehman has dedicated her life to Orangi Pilot Project to uplift the life of under privilege people. Her friends said that she has no personal enmities with anyone. But it is feared that her outstanding work in Orangi area under OPP may have ticked off some influential people belonging to land mafia, belonging to various political parties.
In addition to working endlessly for 26 years to uplift the poor localities of Orangi, she also mapped out illegal land occupation and water hydrants working in several areas of Karachi. Parveen Rehman never married due to her sheer dedication. She has left a grieving mother behind her. People of all walks of life have condemned her killing and indicated that land mafia and people associated with illegal water hydrants might be behind her assignation. Today Karachi has lost one of its true guardians who have dedicated its life for Karachi under privilege areas. Rest in peace!
