Shahzeb Khan Murder case – Death sentence for Shahrukh Jatoi & Siraj Talpur
Anti Terrorism Court (ATC) in Karachi has awarded death sentence to Shahrukh Jatoi and Siraj Talpur in the Shahzeb Khan Murder case. Other two suspects Sajjad Talpur and Ghulam Murtaza Lashari were awarded life sentences. Shahzeb Khan was brutally murdered, on December 25, 2012, when he had a fight with Shahrukh Jatoi’s servant who had teased Shahzeb’s sister. Later, Shahrukh Jatoi intercepted Shahzeb Khan with his friends Siraj Talpur & Sajjad Talpur and allegedly murdered him in Defence Housing Authority’s (DHA) posh locality in Karachi.
Shahrukh Jatoi belongs to a wealthy family who owns Hyderabad based cement factor and Awaz TV channel. Shahrukh’s family used its influence to prevent Police from register the case against him. They also helps him fled the country. Shahzeb Khan’s murder sparks the anger in Pakistan and many groups, organizations and people took the street demanding Shahrukh Jatoi and his friend’s arrest. Media followed the story as Shahrukh Jatoi and his friends made the run to save themselves. PPP led government had to kneel down to public pressure and finally traced Shahrukh Jatoi and his friends in UAE and brought them back to Pakistan to face the charges.
Media Media reports says that Shahzeb Khan’s family is under pressure to accept blood money (under Diyat) to save Shahrukh Jatoi from capital punishment. This verdict sent a clear message to influential and feudal class of Pakistan who blatantly abuses power for their interest. Where justice for Shahzeb Khan is commendable, people of Karachi also seek justice for innocent lives that are lost in Karachi on daily basis due to political violence and target killings.
