Saba Qamar opting for more Performance base Roles
Having too much exposure on television can be a problem for actors, actresses and media personalities. The clever one always chooses assignment carefully to control their image and quality of work. Saba Qamar is one of such rare actress who believes in this concept. Talented and beautiful actress and model from Gujranwala has come a long way in recent years to become the leading name in Pakistan television industry. Saba Qamaer can be seen playing a leading role in Pakistani TV dramas, looking gorgeous in photo shoots and TVC. But her all endeavors are carefully chosen to protect her hard built image.
In this short span of time, Saba Qamer has won many several awards & nominations, praise from critics and built a big fan following. Her success started when she replaced Veena Malik in Geo TV’s political satire show ‘Hum Sub Umeed Se Hain’. Later she moved to Karachi from Lahore to solidify her career as Pakistan media industry is mainly based in this port city. Moving to Karachi has paid its dividends for Saba. In last two years, she has managed to win leading roles in Hum TV, ARY Digital and Geo TV network. She was highly appreciated in plays like Maat, Pani Jaisa Piyar, Mein Chaand Si, Thakan and Yahan Pyar Nahi Hai.
TV drama is serious business and big network and producers do not take risk by casting actors and actress that cannot deliver the intended results. Saba Qamar has established herself as a serious and mature actress who is keen on improving herself day by day. You can see noticeable improvement in her acting in recent years. That’s why she has become the choice of all leading media production houses. She is playing roles with senior actors like Saba Hameed, Qaiser Naqvi, Aamina Sheikh, Farooq Zameer, Adnan Siddiqui, Noman Ejaz, Saba Faisal and Firdous Jamal etc.
Recently, she has rightly decided to choose more serious roles that provide her more acting margin. Her role in ARY Digital’s ‘Thakan’ is about a lower middleclass working girl that fights against the odds, both at home at work to earn livelihood for her family. Being the bread earner of the family of limited means, she was not appreciated by her parents and self center pampered sister. The play also shows how men try to abuse working girls looking for sexual pleasures. In this play Saba is playing a lead role with veteran Farooq Zameer, Saba Hameed and Bindya. The story is well written by Faiza Iftikhar portraying the issues of working women in Pakistani society.
Another play worth mentioning is ‘Yahan Pyar Nahi Hai’ on Hum TV. Here she plays a role of loyal housewife (Haleema) who is not appreciated by her husband (Saim) which is played by ‘The Call’ lead singer Junaid Khan. Saim humiliate Haleema on daily basis for their unmatched marriage and she bears all of his abuse for her children and family. Story progresses as Haleem ask her cousin Shumaila (played by Mavra) to come live with them who is a medical student. Things for simple Haleema start getting complicated as Shumaila started luring her husband. Saba role is still growing and it is going to get elevated in coming episodes when she will confront her betraying husband and her wicked cousin.
Saba Qamar success is going to continue as she concentrating on getting better roles having strong script and production house support. Her recent roles have clearly indicated that that she is looking for performance driven characters and not just petty glitz and glamour. We wish Saba Qamar all the best.
