Shahid Afridi should quit Cricket & play Golf
In Cricket world, when players are on the top of their game and feels that they are at the height of their career, they quits cricket and retire gracefully with honor. But Pakistani cricketers do not believe in this concept. They continue to get themselves selected in the squad by hook or by crook and perform bdaly until they were compel to leave under public pressure. There are countless names of Pakistani players who have taken this humiliating path. Javed Miandad, Wasim Akram, Moin Khan and Aamer Sohail all of taken this embarrassing route to conclude their otherwise remarkable careers. Recent name added to this list is none other than BOOM BOOM Afridi. Shahid Afridi recent performance in ICC World Twenty20 was extremely disappointing. Critics and former players have raised question that why was he included in Pakistan team on the first place.
Shahid Afridi inconsistency is nothing new. He is big slogger of the ball who has fail to develop the temperament and maturity of a batsman. Fans cheer Boom Boom Afridi when he get lucky and throw ball outside the boundary, but mostly he is either bold or easily caught by the fielder after facing some deliveries. In Semi Final of the ICC World Twenty20, Pakistan was beaten by Sri Lanka by only 16 runs. Pakistan was in a very good position on seizing the match when they restrict host Sri Lanka to 139 runs. Bowlers did their part and it was batsman turn to do their bit. Shahid Afridi was suppose to stay on wicket and get himself settle in to spot lose ball to score some runs. In other words, if he had just added 16 odds runs to the total, Pakistan was comfortably home. But as usual he was bold on the first ball when he completely misread HMRKB Rangana Herath.
But during the whole ICC World Twenty20 tournament, Shahid Afridi performance was pretty bad. Afridi only took 4 wickets and conceded 171 runs (7.12 economy). It is about time Shahid Afridi should say farewell to cricket. He should be rather playing golf as show in recent Pepsi World Twenty20 advertisement campaign. It is time to make room for new player in the team and move on.
