Mansoor Ijaz annoys Memogate Commission
As Memogate starts to fades away, the central character Mansoor Ijaz’s lawyer have tried to resuscitate the controversy by requesting judicial commission to change the location of statement recording from Dubai to Zurich or London. The judicial commission investigation the Memogate scandal have previously extend the dates for Mansoor Ijaz to appear before them and record his statement. Mansoor Ijaz through his lawyer had informed the commission that he will not travel to Pakistan due to security reasons. At that time Ijaz’s counsel Akram Sheikh also demanded the security of no less than an army battalion as they don’t trust the Zardari’s government or their provided security.
Justice Qazi Faez Essa said today that if they would have informed earlier that Mansoor Ijaz won’t be coming to Pakistan, the commission precious time would have been saved and case would have been resolved by now. Justice Essa also said that Akram Sheikh is now adding other matters like ‘Parliamentary Committee on National Security summon’ as another excuse to delay the recording of statement. The commission also inquired Mr. Sheikh that what guarantees can he provide to court that Mansoor Ijaz would record his statement if the location is changed to London or Zurich from Dubai.
Akram Sheikh has said that Mansoor Ijaz feels security threat in traveling to Pakistan; and Ijaz fears that he may be arrested on false charges. He also feels that government can intimidate his client and there is a risk that valuable evidence may be confiscated from him. The critics says that it’s seems that some kind of settlement between the Zradari’s government and Mansoor Ijaz has already taken place and it is unlikely that Ijaz will ever come to Pakistan or record his statement.
