Hamid Mir escapes car bomb plot
The senior journalist and Geo News anchor Hamid Mir escaped a deadly terrorist bomb plot. It was reported that an explosive device weighting half kilogram was attached beneath the car. A driver of Hamid neighbor spotted a strange looking small grey color bag hanging under the car. He informed Hamid’s driver who took the car away from home before calling the authorities. Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) after defusing the bomb informed that explosive was live and has enough power to blow up the Hamid Mir’s residence.
Hamid Mir’s political talk show Capital Talk is widely watched television program. His earlier claim to fame was interviewing Al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden in Kabul during 2001 before joining Geo News. Hamid’s opponent term him as Taliban sympathizer and who was also briefly banned by Musharraf regime for the same reason. Recently, he condemned the attack of 15-year-old child blogger and education activist Malala Yousafzai who was shot in head by Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in Swat valley. Attack on Malala Yousafzai has also sparked country wide anger and protest against Taliban atrocities. It was also reported in section of press that Hamid Mir recent criticism on intelligence agencies’ role in Balochistan in Saleem Safi Geo TV show had also cause concern on some quarters in Pakistan.
Interior Minister Rehman Malik have told reporters that government have announced Rs.50 million reward for information relating to Hamid Mir’s bomb plot. The attack on Hamid Mir shows that Pakistan is one of the most dangerous places for journalist where growing extremism & radicalization is hampering country development, killing innocent people and resisting freedom of speech.
